Dimapur, April 12 (EMN): The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (Enpo) has congratulated the Konyak Union on behalf of the people of Eastern Nagaland for successfully setting a new Guinness World Record for the “Largest Traditional Konyak Dance” earlier this week.
“The successful record breaking attempt of the ‘largest traditional dance’ by the tribe yet again, recounts the tale of their rich culture and tradition that have captivated the minds of the historians and named the tribe as the last of the head hunters, and through this record the tribe is delegated as the pioneer of today (sic),” read a statement from Enpo.
“The ENPO takes pride in the success of the Konyaks for adding new quills of achievement to the crown of eastern people,” it added.
A total of 4,687 Konyak women clad in traditional attire danced to the beats of their age-old instrument and sang a ceremonial song for five minutes and two seconds during the Aoleang cum mini-Hornbill festival at Mon Town on April 5 in an attempt to enter the world record book.
The Guinness World Records authorities on April 9 confirmed the rare feat achieved by the Konyak Union.
