Mokokchung, Jan. 20 (EMN): ‘Mokokchung Times,’ an English daily newspaper based in Mokokchung was launched on Friday at Ongpangkong Salang, Arkong ward, in Mokokchung town, where a dedicatory prayer was offered by Rev. Ponen Longchar, pastor of Mokokchung Town Baptist Church.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, the pastor encouraged the team to bring out the newspaper that is unbiased, fearless and uphold the truth.
“There will be times when you will face life-threatening situations and will receive huge criticisms but be resolute and always stand for what is the truth,” he asserted.
Longchar asserted that writing news by upholding the principle of truth would educate and uplift the people in bringing about reformation and transformation in the society. He further urged to let the newspaper be the voice of the voiceless, which has become the need of the hour in the Naga society.
Sashimeren Jamir, secretary of Mokokchung Press Club, congratulated the editor and his team for creating history by publishing the first English daily in Mokokchung. He said that the paper would be a boon for Nagas in general and for Mokokchung district in particular.
While citing example about many newspapers which have come and gone, he has insisted on teamwork and perseverance for a paper to survive. He encouraged the team to work towards changing the mindset of the people through the newspaper and also sought the public support to enable it grow further.
Limalenden Longkumer, editor of Mokokchung Times, while giving an overview and introduction of the paper, mentioned the need for an English daily in Mokokchung town. Limalenden stated that he has vision to make ‘Mokokchung Times’ as the voice of the people of Mokokchung. He also informed that the newspaper is independent and would be a pillar that strives for the truth.
Limalenden is a senior journalist in Mokokchung with more than fifteen years of experience. He is the president of Mokokchung Press Club and vice president of Nagaland Press Association. ‘Mokokchung Times’ will be available for subscription and home delivery from February 2022.
