
The members and officials at the 5th annual general body
meeting of the Englan Yingsung Women Livelihood Thrift and Credit Co-operative
Society Ltd., held on May 3 at New Changsu Community Hall.
- WOKHA — The
Englan Yingsung Women Livelihood Thrift and Credit Co-operative Society Ltd.
(ETWLT&CCS) held its fifth annual general body meeting on May 3 at New
Changsu Community Hall.
- Speaking as the special guest, Thungbemo Patton, project director
of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Wokha, emphasised the importance of
women’s empowerment.
- He shared insights from his recent visit to Kerala, where he
studied the inception and impact of self-help groups (SHGs). He noted that
women in Kerala have successfully transformed SHGs into institutions, thereby
improving their economic status and that of their families.

- Patton stressed that SHGs provide women with financial
independence, enabling them to generate income and strengthen their households
and society. He urged villagers to support and respect women by offering
opportunities for independent earning, thereby fostering a progressive and
self-sustaining society.
- Highlighting government initiatives, Patton outlined various
schemes and projects aimed at rural financial growth. He encouraged the active
implementation of these programmes, stating that more financial resources would
be injected into the rural sector. He also encouraged ETWLT&CCS Ltd. to be
a role model for other federations and announced plans to establish an
egg-producing cluster in the district through the federation.
- Addressing the gathering, Renjano Ezung, Child Development
Project Officer (CDPO) Wokha, spoke on key developmental areas, including
social, rural, human resource, educational, and health-related concerns.
- She underscored the crucial role of ASHA and Anganwadi
workers in monitoring the health and well-being of newborns. Ezung urged women
to avail themselves of various government facilities designed to support their progress
and improve their quality of life.
- ETWLT&CCS Ltd. president S Zuchibeni Odyuo noted that
over 400 members from eight village-level organisations (VLOs) and SHGs
participated in the event. The programme also featured greetings by Alanthung
Ngullie, SRCS, and a success story shared by Zujanbeni E Odyuo of Myanta SHG,
Yikhum.
