Mokokchung, Oct. 21 (EMN): Police Commemoration Day was observed by the District Executive Force of Mokokchung on Sunday, October 21, to pay tributes to the brave men and women of the police force who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
Mokokchung’s Superintendent of Police, Raguramarajan A read out the list of the police personnel who were killed in the line of duty. He said that the day was being observed to remember the sacrifices of policemen who defended the borders with China in 1959 as well as to pay tributes to all other police personnel killed on duty.
Since 1961, more than 33,500 police personnel have sacrificed their lives for the security of the nation and service to the society, he said.
Later, guards honoured the martyrs with a salute. Officers, invitees and public members placed wreaths at the Police Martyrs Memorial of DEF Mokokchung.

The 78th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) paid rich tributes to police martyrs by observing Police Commemoration Day at Zubza, in Kohima district on October 21. Surender Singh, the commandant of the battalion and other senior officers and policemen placed wreaths and paid homage to the martyrs at the Jai Jawan Memorial, a press release from the CRPF on Sunday stated.
Every year, Police Commemoration Day is observed on October 21 to remember the sacrifices of 10 CRPF men who were martyred fighting the Chinese army on October 21, 1959 at Hotspring, Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir.
The CRPF unit organized various programmes during the event. In the evening on the 19th cultural programmes were organized. Likewise, on the 21st, a Guard of Honour and a wreath laying ceremony was conducted at the Jai Jawan Memorial where the officers and personnel of the unit paid homage.
The policemen also observed two minutes silence as a tribute, the updates informed.
Commandant Surender Singh briefed the men about the significance of the occasion and read out the list of police personnel in the country who laid down their lives in service of the country from September 2017 to August 2018.
Literary competitions for children were also organized on the 21st. School children from Zubza village and children of the personnel participated in the events, the updates stated. Special prizes were distributed to the winners besides consolation prizes to some, the unit informed.
