Dimapur, October 19: The Eastern Nagaland College Students Union (ENCSU) began its third phase agitation in Tuensang district, the headquarters of Eastern Nagaland, at 6 am on Wednesday by restricting movement of government vehicles. The union also closed down all the government offices on the day b banners that read “Justice delayed is justice denied, Locked until justice is delivered, Locked down by ENCSU - No MBBS, No functioning’’.
Informing this in a release, ENCSU Tuensang unit, claimed that the first day of the agitation was successful and peaceful. It said one government vehicle was confiscated by the volunteers during the day.
It stated that the agitation began with a short orientation for the volunteers and briefing on the aims and objectives of the demands of the ENCSU.
The agitation was supported by the Federating units of ENSF as directed and volunteered by the Confederation of Chang Students’ Union, Chang Students' Union Tuensang Town, Khiamniungan Students’ Union and United Sangtam Students’ Conference in Tuensang, the release said.The union demanded accountability in the government’s policy in the education system and warned that the agitation will continue as intended till its demands are met.
The United Sangtam Students' Conference (USSC) also launched the third phase ENCSU agitation in Kiphire.
“Deprivations on the rights cannot be tolerated any more, the conference shall never compromise in any manner unless the demand is fulfilled,” Achum Thonger, general secretary, USSC, said in another release.
The volunteers of the Conference confiscated one vehicle which will be released after the demand is fulfilled, the release said and further warned that it will strictly adhere to its nature of the agitation and if any individual found violating the call shall be seriously dealt with.
