Superintendent of Police Phek Dr. Pritpal Kaur launches the Elpis Society for Rehabilitation centre in Phek.
DIMAPUR — The Elpis Society for Rehabilitation centre was launched in Phek by Superintendent of Police Phek Dr. Pritpal Kaur on Sunday at the PTC Hall.
According to an update, the Elpis Society is a community-based organisation established to address the rehabilitation needs of individuals struggling with alcohol, drug, and substance dependence. "Elpis" translates in Greek to "Hope for good".
Founded under the vision and leadership of Dr. Kaur, the society aims to extend healing and support the reintegration of individuals and their families affected by addiction.
Its core focus areas include awareness generation, prevention, counselling, rehabilitation support, community engagement, and advocacy, while actively working to reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with substance use disorders.
The launch programme was chaired by General Secretary of the Elpis Society Wazote Akami and commenced with an invocation by Dr. Soho, Associate Pastor of PTBC.

The keynote address was delivered by President of the Elpis Society, Velato Nienu, who spoke on the importance of compassion, community participation, and collective responsibility in addressing substance dependence.
The formal unveiling of the society’s constitution was done by Dr. Kaur. Encouraging everyone to work toward a drug- and intoxicant-free Phek district, she noted that this rehabilitation centre and society represent her final parting gift to the district before her transfer, offered with the hope of fostering a more peaceful and progressive community.
Vice President Nuvekulu Ezung presented the society’s vision and mission.
It was mentioned that rehabilitation centre works and repairs have started, and the first batch of drug dependents will soon be registered to be guided by proper counsellors, a doctor, prayer centre experts, and caretakers.
