KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 28: Kuki United FC downed Naga FC 3-1 to advance to the finals of the 22nd edition of Classic Cup tournament here at Kohima local ground. Kuki United FC centre forward Elminhao led from the front as he scored twice in both the intervals to guide his team through. With the victory today, Kuki United FC will take on Barak FC in the final on November 30.
Elminhao gave the much-needed lead for Kuki Utd in the 36th minute and gave his team the advantage till the interval.
In the second half, Naga FC received another blow in the 47th minute as Elminhao was on target again. Receiving a fine cross from the far right, Elminhao just needed to give a simple touch to get past the keeper.
Trailing two goals behind against a formidable Kuki United till the third quarter of the 90 minutes match, Naga FC was placed in a position with no chance of turning the match back to their favour.
Both the teams had equal ball possession, but the Kuki team performed better in the finishing line. The Naga FC players will only have to blame themselves for not capitalising the opportunities that came their way.
In the final ten minutes, Kuki United ensured their victory when their midfielder Letminthang netted the third goal in the 82nd minute.
Naga FC scored a consolation goal when their midfielder Senelo Magh scored in the 89th minute. He delivered just a minute before the stipulated time, to minimize the margin.
