Wokha, Jan. 19 (EMN): In an election-related violent incident between supporters of two rival candidates, one person identified as Renbithung Yanthan, a resident of GA colony, was reportedly shot four times injuring his head, neck and chest, on Jan. 18 at around 11 pm.
It was reported that a group of masked miscreants went to the victim's house and commanded his father Etsorhomo Yanthan to follow them to which the latter refused.
A scuffle reportedly ensued. The accused is reported to have taken out a pistol to shoot the father but instead grievously injured Renbithung Yanthan. He however managed to run to his neighbours and escaped more harm, it was informed.
The victim was taken to the district hospital but was later shifted to Kohima. His condition is reported to be stable at the time this report was being filed.
The main accused was identified by the senior Yanthan, named one Tumchobemo Kikon, son of Sungroshan Kikon, and a resident of Vungotchu colony in Wokha Town.
A police complaint has been lodged with the police station in Wokha on Jan. 19 by the Humtso Union of Wokha town. The police are on search for the accused persons, said the SDPO of Wokha.
The police added that after the incident the duty officers rushed to the victim's house and also raided the houses of the accused persons but they were absconding.
The victim's father is said to be a supporter of former minister Dr. Chumben Murry from Wokha.
Renbithung E Yanthan is a student of Bailey Baptist College studying in class-11. The Bailey Baptist College administration, staff and students have strongly condemned the 'heinous crime' committed upon its member. The college's bodies have demanded that the authorities immediately book the culprits.
