Kohima, July 31 (EMN): An elderly person was seriously injured on Saturday afternoon after a speeding vehicle hit him at a petrol pump in Mohonkhola, Kohima.
According to eyewitness accounts, the vehicle was going at a high speed towards the wrong side and hit the man before crashing into a pole at the gas station.
Behind the wheel was an elderly woman, driving the car with L-plate (learner driver plate). The woman reportedly pressed the accelerator instead of the break, which led to the accident.
The incident took place at around 12:30 pm on Saturday.
The victim, who was an employee at the petrol pump, was rushed to the nearest hospital following the incident and the gas station was closed.
Shortly after the incident, police officers arrived at the spot to take stock of the situation. It was informed that the driver admitted that she was at fault.
Meanwhile, a shopkeeper who witnessed the incident said that vehicles with L-plate should not be allowed to ply on the highway as it put people's life at risk.
