House engulfed by fire at Ungma Village on Monday.
MOKOKCHUNG — A devastating fire on Monday morning in Ungma
village, Mokokchung district, completely destroyed the home of an elderly
couple and caused partial damage to a nearby house.
Inspector of Fire and Emergency Services, Mokokchung,
Kelenseho Stephen Tsukru, informed that the Fire Station received information
about the incident at 9.22 am. In response, two fire tenders from Fire Station
South and one from Fire Station North were immediately dispatched to the scene.
According to an eyewitness, before the fire tenders arrived,
a private water transport vehicle stationed at the site supplied water, helping
to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
Once the fire tenders reached the location, firefighters,
with the assistance of village volunteers and Assam Rifles personnel stationed
in Mokokchung, managed to bring the blaze under control within an hour.
The fire is believed to have started in the elderly couple’s
home while they were away. The blaze completely engulfed their Naga-style
thatched house and partially damaged a neighbouring semi-concrete structure.
Inspector Tsukru stated that the exact cause of the fire is
yet to be determined, but property worth approximately INR 15 lakh was
destroyed in the incident.
