DIMAPUR — The 4th edition of EduConnect on the theme “Connecting education to opportunities,” organised by the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) in collaboration with Cryptex Solo, commenced at the Integrated Business Hub and Innovation Centre, Dimapur, on Friday.
On the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between Atria Institute of Technology and IDAN for the Atria-IT scholarship programme.
Delivering the keynote address at the inaugural programme of the two-day event, Abu Metha, chairperson of IDAN, underscored the importance of education, technology, and responsible use of social media in shaping the future of students in Nagaland.

Metha termed the event significant and informed that thousands of students had participated in previous editions, with many finding pathways to meaningful academic and professional careers.
He mentioned that several students have already benefited from the initiative and are currently pursuing studies outside the state.
He encouraged students to continuously absorb knowledge “like a sponge,” stating that knowledge, education, and information would serve as both armour and weapon in today’s world.
He said modern life is driven by information technology and urged students to equip themselves with technological skills to remain relevant in a rapidly changing world.
Metha remarked that the uneducated of today are not those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot use modern technology, noting that adaptation is necessary in an age where change is constant.
He said access to information and career guidance was once limited, unlike today where information from around the world is instantly available through smartphones and the internet.
At the same time, he cautioned against the misuse of social media, advising students to verify information before sharing it online.
Metha said traditional perceptions of success being limited to professions such as engineering, medicine, or government service had changed significantly.
He said students today have access to numerous career options and can succeed in any profession if they work hard, remain disciplined, and pursue excellence.
Vineet Kumar, additional secretary, Finance Department and IDAN, in his welcome address, said that the objective of the event is to create a platform for students to explore future career opportunities.
To make the programme more inclusive, the event was also live-streamed across all 16 districts through coordination with the deputy commissioners, enabling students who could not attend physically to participate remotely.
He noted that the programme was designed for students at a crucial stage in life, where decisions taken after classes 10 and 12 would shape their future careers and life trajectory.
Kumar urged students to make informed choices while selecting courses, colleges, and career paths.
Advising students, he said three factors should be considered while choosing a course — personal interest, future relevance of the field, and long-term life goals.
Akash Baishya, founder of Cryptex Solo, thanked the Government of Nagaland for supporting the initiative and creating a platform focused on youth empowerment and educational engagement.
Highlighting the immense talent, creativity, and potential of Naga youth, Baishya said that with proper guidance and opportunities, students can achieve success in fields such as academics, media, technology, hospitality, fashion, and other sectors.
Following the inaugural programme, a technical session on the topic “The future of filmmaking in Nagaland” was held, with Kivini Shohe serving as the resource person.
Sessions were also conducted on topics including business and finance, and studying abroad, with resource representatives from the University of Liverpool, followed by career opportunities in hotel and hospitality management, led by Indrani.
Other important topics for the benefit of students were also conducted.
