Jayanti at NEISSR, Chümoukedima, organised by the institute's NSS Unit on
Monday.
- DIMAPUR — The North East Institute of Social
Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Peace Centre, Chümoukedima, under the
initiative of the NSS Unit NEISSR, observed Dr. BR Ambedkar Jayanti on Monday
at BAM Hall.
- According to an update, addressing the gathering, Fr. GL
Khing, vice principal of NEISSR, spoke on the significant impact of Dr.
Ambedkar on Indian society.
- He emphasised that while tribal communities live with a
strong sense of unity and equality, the caste system in many parts of India
continues to marginalise people based on birth. Fr. Khing praised Dr. Ambedkar’s
efforts in challenging the caste hierarchy, stating that his fight brought
about lasting changes in the Indian Constitution and society.
- Highlighting the values Ambedkar propagated—equality,
fraternity, liberty, and justice—Fr. Khing emphasised that today's India
continues to reap the benefits of his vision and sacrifices. Despite the
hardships Ambedkar faced, including during the drafting of the Constitution,
his knowledge, character, and commitment to the upliftment of the marginalised
prevailed.
- He encouraged students of social work to live with humility
and uphold values of justice, equality, and respect, principles that Dr. BR
Ambedkar firmly stood for. He encouraged them to begin with good thoughts,
which would ultimately lead to positive action.
