Participants and resource persons at the two-day national
workshop organised by the department of Physics, Nagaland University, held in
Lumami on March 6 and 7.
- DIMAPUR — Various
educational institutes across the state held different programmes aimed at
fostering academic growth and community development.
- Nagaland University: The department of Physics, Nagaland
University, Lumami, conducted a two-day national workshop on the Fundamental
Aspects of Nano Horizon on March 6 and 7.
- According to an update, the chief guest for the occasion,
Vice Chancellor Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, emphasised the significance of
nanotechnology in everyday life and its vast potential in various scientific
fields.
- He also appreciated the ongoing series of workshops and
research activities at Nagaland University, which contribute to the academic
vibrancy of the institution.
- The guests of honour and resource persons for the workshop
were Prof. A Srinivasan, Director of the Central Institute of Technology,
Kokrajhar, and senior professor at IIT Guwahati, and Prof. Arunav Chakrabarti,
former professor at Presidency University, Kolkata.
- Srinivasan encouraged students and participants to explore
research opportunities in nanoscience and nanotechnology, while Chakrabarti
delivered a lecture on the theoretical aspects of nanoscience. Prof. MS Rawat,
dean of the School of Sciences at Nagaland University, provided a brief note on
the importance of nano research and career opportunities.
- Salesian College of Higher Education: The media club of
Salesian College of Higher Education, in collaboration with the National
Service Scheme (NSS), organised an awareness programme on social media addiction
on Saturday to educate students on the risks of excessive mobile and social
media usage while promoting responsible digital habits.
- An update mentioned that the event had 29 students and over
50 parents and children in attendance.
- Norman Putsure College: Norman Putsure College held its
third parent-teacher meet on Saturday, which featured presentations, including
those from Aspire Academy and Cleftnote Music Academy.
- In her keynote address, managing director Saneinuo Putsure
stressed the importance of balancing academics with skill-building initiatives,
including fishery, poultry, and farming programmes designed to equip students
with practical knowledge.
- On the occasion, the Akruzo Putsure Achievement Award, a
US-based fully sponsored scholarship, was awarded to Bonbon Newmai (second
semester, 2024 batch, department of Sociology) in recognition of academic
excellence and merit.
- NEISSR: North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research
(NEISSR), Chümoukedima, held a two-day international conference of social
scientists and peace activists on March 7 and 8.
- Delivering the inaugural address, Dr. Fr. CP Anto, principal
of NEISSR, highlighted the importance of research and dialogue in
peacebuilding. He stressed the significance of grassroots initiatives and
collaborative efforts, the active engagement of youth and women, the
establishment of a peace fund, economic development, and a commission for peace
and justice.
- Dr. Fr. Walter Fernandes, in his keynote speech, examined
the transformative role of research in shaping social dynamics. He highlighted
the intricate relationship between peace and justice, referencing historical
and contemporary conflicts as well as peace strategies across the globe.
- Special guest Prof. Dr. Vesselin Popovski, in his speech, explored
the historical role of Christianity in shaping societies and emphasised the
need for environmental peace. Prof. Rosemary Dzuvichu deliberated on gender
issues in Naga society and advocated for an increase in women’s participation
in governance and peacebuilding.
- Dr. Deben Bachaspatimayum provided insights into Manipur’s
rich history and current socio-political landscape, while special guest Prof.
Paul Buene de Musketa, at the valedictory programme, urged that nonviolence is
not merely a strategy but a way of life, shaping the foundation for a peaceful
and resilient society.
- The two-day international conference featured 31 presenters
from both national and international levels.
