DIMAPUR — Nagaland
Minister for Rural Development and State Institute of Rural Development,
Metsübo Jamir, on Thursday said the purpose of acquiring knowledge and
education for a student today should not be a futile exercise but rather something
to be utilised practically.
Speaking as the chief guest on day two of the Asangma
Shisashir Telongjem (AST) Students' Union platinum jubilee celebration, held at
Asangma village in Mokokchung, he advised the student community to strive to
become leaders in their own capacity.
He said that they have many responsibilities ahead,
particularly in helping to carry forward their village, community, and state.
He emphasised that this should not lead to a tribalistic mindset but rather to
being fair, unprejudiced, and living in harmony with others. Jamir also urged
them to envision the future and seek wisdom and understanding from their
elders.
He also advised the students not to merely seek a job as a
means of survival but rather to have ambition for what they can contribute to
their society.
Considering the occasion a day to remember the blessings
bestowed upon them, he announced that he would be contributing funds towards
the redevelopment of the village’s old football ground and also assist in
sponsoring free coaching classes for the students.
The Advisor for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, A Pangjung
Jamir, was also in attendance as the jubilee host. He had earlier attended as
the inaugural guest of the jubilee celebration on Wednesday night.
The presidential address was delivered by Moalong Lemtur,
AST president, while a short message was shared by I Kilang Jamir, chairman of
Asangma Village Council. Speeches were also given by Lanutoshi Aier, president
of Ao Kaketshi Mungdang (Students' Conference), and Imlinok, president of
Langpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang.
Established in 1949, the AST platinum jubilee celebration is
being held from December 18 to the 20th.
