Dimapur, Oct. 11 (EMN): The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (Hindi, roughly, for ‘save the girl child, educate the girl child’) project was launched on International Day of the Girl Child on Oct. 11 in Phek districot with Daisy Mezhur, the secretary of the Nagaland State Social Welfare Board & Mission as the guest of Honour.
Updates from the DIPR informed that the deputy commissioner of Phek, Orenthung Lotha highlighted that Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme was launched to address low sex ratio in the country, and to empower the girl child and to prevent gender-based selection.
Also, the guest of honour, Mezhur, emphasized that the best gift one can give to a girl child was education. The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme is for the education and protection of the girl child, she said.
She urged nongovernmental organisations, churches and government agencies to give their best and time to the success of the scheme.
