The state of Nagaland has gone far ahead in the field of education. Our educational institutions are no less than others. We have produced best personalities in the society. This is because there are sufficient schools to cater to the needs of the students. Most children could study and learn because of easy access to Schools and Colleges. Both Government and private educational institutions have nurtured children to get the best of themselves.
All educational institutions aim for the best result especially when it comes to public exam like HSLC and HSSLC. In the search for such necessary fame the school may forget to train the heart of the students. Educating the child inside the classroom is not only for the development of mind or body but it is also for the formation of heart (emotional level). The growth of arrogant and impatient behaviour among the young people clearly shows the missing mark of Schools and Colleges. Sometimes, we play the blame-game. Parents blame the School/College for some unwanted behaviour of children. The same blame is put upon the shoulders of the parents by the Schools and Colleges. By this, many children become victims of blame-game. They are grinded between two teeth.
With the restriction of corporal punishment in Schools and Colleges, Parents became more sensitive than most children. A tiny issue is magnified by parents in support of their broiler child. I was told of an incident where a Pastor entered the School to scold the teacher on the face because the teacher punished his son. Legally, the teacher was wrong, but morally the Pastor was wrong (I am sure no one fights with a pastor inside his/the Church). Which one do you opt for in the formation of students? This is a hard decision for many parents. In this complex thought, anger can take over the person. Anger is never a sudden outburst. It is accumulated guilt, shame and rejection. Parents should not to wash their dirt inside the sacred atmosphere of the Schools and Colleges by such behaviour. There are many ways of correcting each other. Therefore, choose the best to get the best outcome.
Every teacher makes the best use of time to impart necessary knowledge to students. It is likely that the quality of a teacher is judged by the result of the students. Yet the best teacher may only have brain without a heart. Such teachers are glorified and exalted, but the good teacher who forms the heart of the students is kept beside the school lifelong. Educational institutions searching for name and fame fall victim to this reality. All teachers must get equal importance in Schools and Colleges. In Nagaland, Maths and Science teachers are sought after like celebrities. In this search, some students fail their way/aim and live a wayward life thereafter. To live in regret is as hard as living on the edge of a needle.
Many educational institutions compete with each other in infrastructure and numbers. The brochure/prospectus displays excellent atmosphere to attract students. But some institutions may act like traps. They trap sufficient number of students to extract and empty the two pockets of the parents in an exaggerated manner. Most parents are made to believe that the higher the admission fee and monthly tuition fees, the better the school. Thus, many parents send their children to the costliest schools. Children of this type may come out as vampire to suck the blood of the parents. Parents should take wise decision in deciding Schools and Colleges for children.
Today, many parents complain that their sons and daughters do not listen to them. They do not want to be corrected, they get angry at small thing, chat and play with their cell phones day and night, late sleeping and late rising. Are we trying to hatch rotten eggs? I am sure many parents have rotten eggs to look after. There are instances where students in higher secondary level still behave like babies. Adding some more butter and sugar to it parents call them ‘baby’ (a baby with a moustache!) Parents are too kind to make them fragile human beings. They cannot bear any hardship. They can survive only inside the room with junk foods. Yes, they have grown tall, handsome and pretty, yet maturity of mind and heart is empty.
Today’s generation is lucky indeed to have gone through several phases of change. There are people who have immersed themselves from such river of change and become new persons. They continuously adapt themselves into the situation and live accordingly. This is the secret of success. On the contrary, others still wait and become old and grey unaffected by the heat and rain of life They search for dependency and enslave themselves with failure of dreams and life. To open the gate of life, every educational institution (formal and informal) must also adapt to change in order to change the learner towards higher goal.
Let every School and College form the life of students along with parents (home atmosphere) to make Nagaland a mature State. Let us not give birth to broiler students in our educational institutions, Nagas have sufficient local murgis.
