Dimapur, Aug. 20 (EMN): In a bid to curb the high rate of school dropouts at the secondary level, the Directorate of School Education has come out with a set of directives as advised by the MHRD to be followed by District Education Officer, the principals, headmasters and teacher in-charge of different schools in the state.
The Director of DoSE, Wonthungo Tsope, in an official notification, stated that it has been observed that one of the major reasons behind the high dropout rate at the secondary level is the hardship faced by the parents in identifying secondary school and take fresh admissions.
To address the issue, Tsope informed that the Directorate is initiating the advisory issued by the MHRD which include a ten point directives which included the identification of the feeder govt. middle schools of each ghss/ghs by the DEOs under their jurisdiction and notify the feeder gms.
The principals/headmasters and head teachers to automatically admit the qualified Class VIII students from the feeder schools to Class IX of the respective high schools or high sec. school under whose jurisdiction the feeder schools fall.
The DEOs shall call all the head teachers, principals, headmasters and class teachers of classes VIII and IX under their jurisdiction for a meeting and explain the provisions of the advisory.
The above three points are to be completed by all the DEOs and submit an ‘action taken report’ by September 20 2018 without fail.
Besides, the head teacher of the middle schools shall submit the required documents such as PCR of the qualified Class VIII students to the principal/headmaster where the students will be automatically admitted and no ghss/ghs shall deny admission to the qualified students coming from the feeder middle schools.
The head teach shall inform the parents about the ghss/ghs where their children would automatically admitted and all Class VIII class teachers shall visit the residence of those qualified students who are not joining Class IX to encourage them to continue their studies; and shall supervise the transition of students from Class VIII to Class IX and remove all hurdles in the process.
The head teachers shall prepare list of students who have passed out Class VIII but have not joined Class IX despite of the efforts done and submit the list to the DEOs; consequently, the DEOs shall discuss the matter with the respective deputy commissioner and director of school education for identifying the further course of action that can be taken to encourage the students to rejoin in Class IX.
Finally, the DoSE notified that the MHRD advisory advises states that the deputy commissioners are responsible for ensuring automatic admission of all qualified Class VIII students in a secondary/hr. sec. school; therefore, all the DEOs shall work in close association with the district administration in this regard.
It maybe noted that there are reports of many school dropouts in Nagaland especially in the rural areas . This notification is expected curb the high rate of school dropouts to some extent.
