Staff Reporter Dimapur, August 10 (EMN): To ease the congestion and lend a helping hand to Dimapur traffic police personnel, East Dimapur Sumi Youth Organisation (EDSYO) undertook the role of traffic police, which came as a major relief for the exhausted Dimapur traffic police under Zone-II. Mention may be made here that traffic congestion was aggravated along National Highway 29 following damage to one of the bridges over Dhansiri River on Nagarjan road. Around 25 to 30 EDSYO officials and volunteers assisted the 35 traffic police personnel under Zone-II in controlling unruly drivers. Officer-in Charge of Traffic Control Zone-II, Peter Shurya said the assistance extended by EDSYO was much needed especially with the Purana Bazaar area to Darogapathar area experiencing heavy congestion which becomes hard on the traffic police personnel to control with lack of manpower. The main cause of traffic congestion is accounted for overtaking and unruly driving, pointed out Shurya. However on Thursday, the area which was supervised with the help of EDSYO, the Dimapur traffic witnessed disciplined flow, he added. ACP (Traffic Zone I), Sezo Peseyie said such activities by various groups with the assistance of traffic police can be a platform where one can learn about traffic rules practically. He said by putting into the shoes of the traffic police, one will learn more about traffic rules practically and be aware of various problems faced by the traffic police when commuters breaks traffic rules causing accidents, jams, etc. He said the traffic police department are also willing to assist students or NGOs who are willing to be part of such activities where theory traffic rules can be imparted practically. EDSYO will assist Dimapur Traffic Police Zone-II for another two days from 8 am to 5 pm.
