Dimapur, June 6: Eco Club of Schola Lojes, Dzüvürü, Kohima, initiated tree plantation drive on June 4 on the roadside along NH-29 to Kigwema village where a total of 200 tree saplings were planted particularly on landslide area below Naga Heritage village, Kisama during the drive. The plantation drive was carried in collaboration with the Forest Department and Phesama Village Council.
About 29 students and 12 teachers representing the Eco-club along with the local people participated in the plantation drive. Before the commencement of the plantation drive, Kevileto Rote, Eco-club in-charge, highlighted on the importance of tree plantation, its benefits, demerits of afforestation and the danger of global changing problem. He also thanked the village authority and the DFO, Kohima, for providing the necessary saplings.
The sole reason for organizing this program was to make the people aware that through planting more and more trees, we could overcome the problem of landslides and climatic chances. It was on this aspect that the Eco-Club decided to undertake plantation drive at the landslide area below Naga Heritage, Kisama village.
