IMPHAL, September 8: A team of ECI (Election Commission of India) will be visiting Manipur for two days beginning September 21 to oversee the state’s preparedness for the upcoming 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
This was conveyed by the Chief Electoral Officer, Vivek Kumkar Dewangan, to media persons while releasing the draft electoral rolls for the sixty Assembly constituencies in Imphal on Wednesday. The ECI team will also interact with all district election officers and other concerned officials on the state election management plan, security plan, communication plan etc.
Participating in the media meet Joint Chief electoral officer, N Praveen, highlighted difference in gender ratio. Citing population census, he said the female ratio per 1000 male was 982, whereas the electoral roll has 1036 female per 1000 male.
The error, Praveen said, has been found in 610 polling stations. He continued that officials had found 1.42 lakhs women who are more than 30 years of age and staying with their parents.
Praveen further pointed out that according to the census report, 64.11 percent of the total population is above the age of 18 years. However, in the electoral roll there is only 54.70 percent. Altogether 24,543 voter duplications have been deleted, while the number of fresh addition is only 4256, he added. The number of polling station is 2794 with 90 stations increased after getting approval from the Election Commission India.
