DIMAPUR — The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the remuneration structure for personnel involved in the preparation and revision of electoral rolls.
Announcing this, the ECI in a press release noted that pure electoral rolls are the bedrock of democracy and that the electoral roll machinery, consisting of electoral registration officers (EROs), assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs), booth level officers (BLOs), and BLO supervisors, does a lot of hard work and plays a pivotal role in the preparation of impartial and transparent electoral rolls.
The ECI has informed that it has doubled the annual remuneration for BLOs and also enhanced the remuneration of BLO supervisors involved in the preparation and revision of electoral rolls. The last such revision was made in 2015.

Additionally, an honorarium has been provided for EROs and AEROs for the first time. The revised remuneration structure, compared to that existing since 2015, is as follows: BLOs now receive INR 12,000 annually, up from INR 6,000, with an incentive for revision of electoral rolls increased from INR 1,000 to INR 2,000; BLO supervisors’ remuneration has been raised from INR 12,000 to INR 18,000; and AEROs and EROs have been allotted INR 25,000 and INR 30,000, respectively, where previously no honorarium was provided.
Besides this, the commission has also approved a special incentive of INR 6,000 for BLOs for special intensive revision (SIR), starting from Bihar.
