ECI holds conference with CEOs for smooth conduct of elections

KOHIMA — The Election Commission of India (ECI) held a conference from April 2 to the 4th in Uttarakhand with chief electoral officers (CEOs) from different states to get inputs related to elections while deliberating on how to improve the election processes in the country.

Sharon Longchari, Joint CEO, Nagaland informed this to Eastern Mirror during an interaction on Monday evening.

She informed that the ECI wanted inputs of all the CEOs from all the states, adding that it was a meeting of the CEOs along with other officials.

Longchari apprised that they had discussed several issues to ensure that the upcoming elections, including polls to the assembly of few states as well as Lok Sabha Election in 2024, are conducted smoothly.“ It was basically about how to improve the electoral processes which are presently in place,” she informed.

Recounting that the conference was held to discuss the elections in general, Longchari apprised how the commission reminded on the necessity to execute their responsibilities while suggestions were put forward to ensure that the election processes go smoothly without problems.

Meanwhile, CEO, Nagaland through a press release on Monday informed that in view of the upcoming General Election to the Lok Sabha, 2024, the ECI organised the conference-cum-retreat of the CEOs from April 2 to the 4th at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie (Uttarakhand).

It informed that the conference was chaired by the commission, adding that the main objectives of the conference were to initiate preparation for the General Election of the House of the People, 2024, to review the organisational structure of the CEO offices and aligning them with various verticals of election process.

It further added that all chief electoral officers and officers of 34 states and union territories participated in the conference.
