In first of its kind the Eastern Nagaland brothers and sisters living or staying at Mokokchung came together under the umbrella of sports, through the initiative of Elation Sporting Association (ESA) at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, which was officially kicked off by Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) Vice presidents Akummeren here today.
Address the first Eastern Nagaland Youth sports Meets, the special guest Akummeren Longchar lauded the ESA for organizing the sports meet to build healthy relationship and foster unity between the eastern Naga tribes and urged them to continue this trend.He also called upon the eastern Naga students Union Mokokchung to come out from the cocoons called “backwardness” and to compete with the rest of the world, adding, “You have capabilities, potentiality and talents to compete with other, you can achieve better than the rest.”
He also expressed that sport is based on friendship and it bring the world together. The AKM vice president also urged the sport contingents not to participate just for the sake of sports but to bring a transformation within you as stated in the theme.
It has to be noted that the Elation Sporting Association was formed in the 2015 by the Chang Union Mokokchung in commemoration of Mokokchung 125 year’s anniversary. The formation behind the ESA was to build healthy relationship and foster unity among the eastern Naga tribes. ESA has also participated in premier football tournament of the District MDFA Torphy 2016 and was adjudged as the best discipline team.
More than 500 participants from the six tribes namely Phom, Chang, Konyak Sangtam, Yimchunger and Khiamniungan are participating in the first Eastern Nagaland Youth sports Meets under the theme “Transformation Through Sports”. The sports meet will culminate on March 26.
