DIMAPUR, APRIL 23
Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) is not against the cause of the Nagas but aims for the good of the Nagas and neither would ENPO allow tribal issues. This was asserted by legislator Kipili Sangtam at the 16th general session cum meeting of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Chumukedima (ENPUC) on April 23 at CTC Hall Chumukedima.
While underlining that ENPO is not backward, Kipili said the people are backward only in terms of economy. Also stating that ENPO or any other organizations alone cannot push the society to greater things, Kipili however said together ‘we can do great things and uplift the society.’
“Eastern leaders signify mirror of its people who will lead its people in all walks of life. A leader must have a vision as people choose their leaders not merely for an aimless and unproductive system but to lead people for a better society because leaders are a little better than the others and that is why people elect them to represent the many,” asserted Kipili.
He exhorted that a leader must imbibed with vision as Naga society is not a blind society. He urged the leaders to rectify themselves taking into account that unity and economy must go together. Emphasizing on unity, Kipili underlined that unless we change ourselves, no resolution could bring about transformation.
Other dignitaries who spoke on the occasion included president of Eastern Naga Gazetted Officers Association (ENGOA) Changkei Konyak, Chairman of Chumukedima Village Council Razouvotuo Chatsü, and president of ENPO S Khoiwang Konyak.
The invocation was pronounced by Rev. Vangpong Phom, while the welcome address was delivered by ENPUC president N Tingyuh Konyak. The vote of thanks was rendered by ENPUC advisor S Heno Khiamniungan, and the benediction was pronounced by the associate pastor of Sangtam Baptist Church Chumukedima, Tsali Sangtam. The day was marked with presentation of cultural items by six eastern communities.
