DIMAPUR — The eastern Konyak public residing
in Myanmar has sought immediate intervention from the Nagaland government as
well as the government of India to reconsider the new Free Movement Regime
(FMR) rules.
A press release from Konyak Union Myanmar (KUM) informed
that this was decided during an emergency meeting on Sunday at HQ Yinchung,
following the Indian government’s decision to tighten FMR and mandate border
passes.
The meeting was held among the KUM advisory board and all
Eastern Konyak Ahngs and village council chairmen and students’ union leaders.
They totally rejected the mandatory border pass rule, it stated.
“How can we apply for (pass) while visiting our own land
with our own people? We are not living in foreign land,” it asserted.
It appealed to the government of India to reconsider the
border restrictions and sought considerate gestures on humanitarian grounds.
Also, the eastern Konyak public questioned where the Naga
national leaders, who had sworn to stand for the entire Naga community, had
disappeared to.
