Dimapur, March 18 (EMN): The Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) has listed a number of requirements for some colleges in the eastern region of the state. The organisation issued a press release on Monday stating the request.
The group informed on Monday in a press release that it had completed a phase of an educational tour the union undertook. The students’ organisation undertook a tour from March 4 to the 14th, to colleges in the four districts of the eastern area.
The ENCSU leaders had a ‘marathon and fruitful discussion’ with heads of institutions there, district administration, and college students’ unions, the press release stated. The organisation said it had informal interactions with students too.
During the tour, the press release stated, the ENCSU was “disappointed of the poor quality developments under four district colleges of eastern Nagaland.”
“In this regard, ENCSU has wholly learned that in all round development activities, the state government and concern department rundown (sic) towards the eastern Nagaland colleges. Furthermore, alike quality developmental works undertaken in other districts colleges of Nagaland are incomparable to rest of the eastern Nagaland colleges,” the group claimed.
The organisation questioned “what ground for not giving any seriousness towards eastern institutions for genuine development (sic).”
The organisation has listed out a number of imperatives that the group stated required addressing.
Zisaji Presidency College: The condition of the road from Kiphire town to the college is “very atrocious attributed a high risky during the rainy season (sic).” The ENCSU has appealed to the state government to “construct blacktopping” before the monsoon season.
Further, the construction work of a boys’ hostel at Zisaji Presidency College as part of a scheme is “not up to the fully satisfactory as per the amount sanction from the ministry (sic).” The union has requested the contractor to adhere to the work guidelines.
Sedem polytechnic at Tuensang: The union explained that lecturers and students are “living in a very timid condition” on account of “not erection of boundary fencing within the campus.”
Development funds for the institution are “not in an active position,” it explained. The ENCSU has asked the department to address the matter.
Another issue that the group raised was insufficient number of lecturers in all the colleges in the eastern region. This is causing ‘hindrances’ to the students’ community, the group stated. Most of the ‘departments’ are run by temporary contract lecturers, the group stated.
The union has asked the state government to appoint lecturers by the next semester.
During the previous year, the group stated, the department in concern had given an assurance to provide buses for the four colleges in the stated districts. However, not even a single bus has been given till date, the group stated. The authorities are requested to provide buses before the next semester starts.
The organisation has urged the state’s government and the department of Higher Technical Education to ‘inaugurate’ the Aboi polytechnic in Mon, at the earliest to start academic sessions by this year.
The press release stated another appeal to the authorities: ‘Complete’ the building for Wakching New Model College before the academic session of 2019 starts.
