- DIMAPUR — The office of the East Dimapur Town
Council (EDTC) has directed the general public within its jurisdiction that the
illegal discharge or disposal of solid and liquid waste into natural water
bodies, specifically the Dhansari river and ponds, by individuals, households,
or commercial establishments is strictly prohibited.
- In a notice, the EDTC stated that such actions are a direct
violation of environmental laws and pose a serious threat to public health,
water quality, and the overall ecosystem.
- In this regard, the EDTC directed that all forms of direct
or indirect disposal of domestic, commercial, or industrial waste into the
Dhansari river and ponds must cease with immediate effect.

- Any sewer outlet or private drainage line currently
discharging human waste or other waste into water bodies must be removed or
redirected by June 30, it said, adding that disposal or discharge of waste into
the sugar mill drain by any individual, household, or commercial establishment
is strictly prohibited and must stop with immediate effect.
- Defaulters found violating this directive will face strict
penalties, including fines and possible legal action under applicable
environmental protection laws.
