East Dimapur Town Council prohibits unauthorised sharing of CCTV footage and warns of legal action to uphold data protection and public safety.

DIMAPUR — The East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) has issued a notification to all business establishments, shops, and commercial institutions under its jurisdiction prohibiting the provision or issuance of CCTV footage from any private or business premises without proper legal authorisation from the concerned department or competent authority.
According to the directive, the measure aims to maintain confidentiality, public safety, and legal integrity in handling recorded surveillance data. It stated that unauthorised sharing, distribution, or use of CCTV footage will be treated as a violation of data protection norms and may attract legal action.
The notification further directed all business owners and responsible persons to strictly adhere to the instruction and cooperate with authorities only when legally required to furnish such footage through proper channels.

Additionally, the East Dimapur Town Council informed that no individual, group, or organisation is permitted to sell or distribute calendars, lotteries, coupons, or similar items to business establishments within its jurisdiction without proper authorisation from the competent authority. Business establishments have been advised not to purchase, accept, or entertain such sales or requests from unauthorised persons or groups.
The council stated that this measure has been taken to prevent misuse and illegal collection and to maintain order and transparency within the town’s jurisdiction. It also warned that any person or group found violating the directive will be dealt with according to relevant rules and regulations.
