Kohima, Jan. 15 (EMN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kohima, on Friday felicitated fire-fighting agencies and volunteers for the service rendered towards dousing the wildfire that raged a vast area near the Dzükou Valley for almost two weeks.
Certificate of Appreciation was awarded to the recipients at a brief programme held in the conference hall of District Planning and Development Board, Deputy Commissioner’s complex, Kohima.
Speaking at the felicitation programme, Home Commissioner, Abhijit Sinha congratulated all the government agencies and civil society organisations involved in fighting and containing the fire that threatened to spread to Dzükou.

The official urged the agencies to be prepared for any eventuality and tackle such incidents with concerted efforts and co-operation as shown during the recent event.
Sinha, while extending his appreciation, told the members representing disaster, police, military, government and civil society organisations to utilise the experience gained in the incident if similar cases arise in future.
The additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Kohima, Lithronlga Tongpi Rutsa, presented a report of the Dzükou forest fire operation, highlighting the sequence from the fire incident was reported on December 29, 2020 till successful containment of the inferno and the subsequent de-induction of operation teams.
Certificate of Appreciation was awarded to: Indian Air Force (IAF); National Disaster Response Force (NDRF); DEF Kohima; Home Guards and Civil Defence; State Disaster Response Force (SDRF); 4th Nagaland Armed Police (NAP); Assam Rifles; Police Wireless; 164 Territorial Army; Medical Department; District Public Relation Office (DPRO); District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Fire and Emergency Services (FES); Forest Department; Southern Angami Public Organisation (Sapo); and Southern Angami Youth Organisation (Sayo).

The advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire and Advisor for Technical Education and Election, Medo Yhokha gave away the awards to the recipients.
