Kohima, Nov. 12 (EMN): The condition of Dzüdza River Bridge along National Highway 29, near the Dzüdza Hydro power station, worsened on Monday night following continuous rainfall and movement of heavy vehicles despite restrictions imposed by the authorities.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, the secretary of Dzüdza village council, Vitso Nagi informed that some portions of the bridge had suffered damages on October 27, which were repaired recently.
However, Kohima traffic police had restricted heavy vehicles from plying on it, due to its condition.
According to Nagi, the heavy vehicles continued to use the bridge when traffic personnel were not manning the bridge. This has now resulted in damages, opposite to the recently repaired portion of the bridge, he informed.
Meanwhile, Kohima police issued a traffic advisory—in order to facilitate the construction of Dzüdza Bridge as well as repair works along NH 29 near the old KMC dumping site. All vehicles have been restricted from plying along this route.
“Light vehicles going down from Kohima to Dimapur, and vice versa, will be diverted to Jotsoma bypass road. Heavy vehicles till (sic) six-wheelers and passenger buses will have to take Tsiesema-10th Mile-Peducha road.
