Dimapur, July 9 (EMN): The Darogapathar Village Council has directed all open butcher shop selling pork, beef, mutton, fish, chicken etc. within the jurisdiction of Darogapathar, along the Highway to close down with immediate effect and make necessary arrangement to sell meat etc. in a well maintained and hygienic enclosure/room inside a proper building or market.
A press release from the council informed that this directive is in pursuance of the EAC Chumukedima ‘Order’ passed after joint meeting of all Village Council Chairmen and Head G.B’s along the National Highway — 29 stretch from Purana Bazaar to Chumukedima held on 29th June,2018’.
The Council further directed ‘all meat shops to ensure correct quantity and quality of meat sold to the customers by using electronic digital weighing scale and by sourcing good healthy slaughter animals only’. Further, the council directed all meat shops within the Darogapathar village to strictly adhere to the rates fixed by the Chumukedima Town Council as the upper limit/ceiling or the rates as fixed by the Darogapathar Village Council.
“Any open butcher shop failing to comply with the directives of the Council shall be penalized as per the decision of the Council,” warned the council in the press release. It may be noted here the meat-stalls along the Highway have been a matter of concern especially for their unhygenic method of selling the meat to consumers.
