DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 8: Durga Puja festival began with pomp and gaiety in Dimapur with Mahasaptami on October 8. Taking the opportunity of the celebrations, the Dimapur Bongs, an affiliate organisation of Dimapur Bengali Samaj, visited different puja pandals carrying the message of Swachch Bharat; Clean Dimapur, Green Dimapur and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.
Beginning with the Babulal Kachari Puja Committee, the Dimapur Bongs paid homage to the 19 Indian soldiers, who were martyred at Uri recently by lighting 19 lamps in their memory led by DMC Administrator, Atokhe Aye.
Atokhe Aye, who visited several puja pandals with the members of Dimapur Bongs along with DMC officials, extended puja greetings at all places and urged the people to keep the spirit of peace and harmony as they celebrate the festival.
He also urged the people to introspect and retrospect whether they are contributing anything to the society as they celebrate the festival of the victory of good over evil.
Aye also mentioned the importance of sanitation and waste management and informed them about the segregation of waste, an initiative taken up by the Dimapur Municipal Council through the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan.
At various puja pandals where he visited, Aye highlighted about the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan and informed that around 20 hoardings have been put up to create awareness about waste management.
Engineer Badal Bhadra of the Dimapur Municipal Council demonstrated on different kinds of wastes, which emanate from every household and how such waste should be dealt with. He termed the wastes as dry waste, wet waste, medicinal waste and electrical and electronic wastes which need to kept separately in different waste bins.
President of Dimapur Bengali Samaj, KK Paul, who accompanied the DMC administrator in all the puja pandals, extended Durga Puja greetings and urged the people from Bengali community to stay united and work for the betterment of Dimapur town.
Paul also conveyed the message of Swachch Bharat Abhiyan and the initiatives taken up by the DMC.
