DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 26
The Duncan Basti Council of Dimapur on Friday distributed free mosquito nets to the residents of the colony. Chief Medical Officer of the district Dr.Wati was the special guest of the event.
Duncan Basti, a colony of nearly around 500 families benefited from the free distribution of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINS) provided by the directorate of Health and Family Welfare under the National Borne Disease Programme.
The LLINS provided by the department is being distributed for free to all the citizens of the areas with an aim to offer protection from malaria, dengue and Japanese encephalitis.
The distribution was done at the Duncan Basti Community Hall.
The LLINs have insecticide incorporated in their fibre which can kill mosquitoes and other insects while preventing them from biting. The effect of the net is said to have 5 years if not washed and can also be used till 20 washes.
The pamphlet provided while distributing the LLINS provides guidelines and the importance of using the net. It states that the net should not be dried directly under the sun and that it cannot be used for fishing. It also states that the LLINS cannot be sold or gifted.

A health team led by Dr. Manen, Medical Officer of Yongnyah primary health center, Asha coordinators and health workers of the village distributed Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets and Do’s and Don’t’s pamphlets pertaining to the usage of LLLINS to Yongnyah villagers on February 25th and the 26th at Yongnyah block.
