Dimapur, July 29 (EMN): Duncan Bosti Council (DBC), Dimapur, comprising Duncan Bosti GBs’ and Duncan Women Union (DWU) have endorsed the clean election campaign initiated by the Nagaland Baptist Churches Council (NBCC).
DBC, in a programme held on July 29 at Lotha Hoho Ki, Dimapur, pledged to promote free and fair elections and abide with the model code of conduct of the Election Commission.
The Council also resolved to ensure clean and fair elections under ward 11 without accepting money, use of alcohol and drugs, without setting up camps, without force and threats, without booth capturing and proxy voting.
DBC chairman, Yangertoshi, reminded the community that only a good leader will pave way for a better Nagaland and it is not late for us to elect a good leader in a democratic system. Her advocated that voter can change the system for a better tomorrow.
Associate pastor of Dimapur Ao Baptist Arogo (DABA), Toshi Longkumer, in his keynote address, was of the view that Nagas have failed to exercise their democratic rights which often resulted in selling their voting rights. In order to witness a better future and as members of NBCC, the local church leader, called upon the community to inculcate team spirit for a fruitful clean election.
“To stop forces that drive our freedom, cast your own vote for a committed Christian, a committed family person keeping in mind that we are electing them to serve us for a better Nagaland and not make money or force to decide our future,” exhorted Longkumer.
River Belt Colony chairman, Mepu Imchen, in his brief address, pointed out that even after 50 years of statehood, our state is still behind the rest because of our unconcerned realisation with our voting rights. Imchen apprised the gathering on its resolution against harbouring campaigns on posters, banners and bill boards. He said the colony had also agreed against distribution of alcohols, drugs and other intoxicants to the voters in the colony. He also informed that the colony had resolved to prohibit organising feast by political parties or buy votes with money or materials.
He said only eligible voters attaining 18 years of age shall be allowed to vote, adding ‘One vote one person’ shall be enforced and no proxy voting will be allowed within its jurisdiction.
It further resolved that the River Belt Colony Council would set up “core-committee members” to implement the clean election guidelines.
