DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Urban Council Chairman
Federation (DUCCF) has resolved to stick to the old residential sanitation fee
of INR 60 and not INR 100 as notified earlier by the Dimapur Municipal Council
(DMC).
President of DUCCF, Zasivikho Zakiesato (2nd from left),
with other DUCCF members at Tourist Lodge on January 13.
This was announced by the president of DUCCF, Zasivikho
Zakiesato, in a press conference following the federation’s annual general
meeting at Tourist Lodge on Monday.
While suggesting the possibility of a miscommunication with
the DMC, Zakiesato recalled that the federation had a meeting with the DMC in
November last year with regard to the increase in the sanitation fee.
In that particular meeting, he said, the DUCCF had informed
the DMC that they would provide feedback regarding the fee hike after thorough
consultation, ‘as residential sanitation fees cover a wide area.’
However, the DMC went ahead with its notification for a hike
in residential sanitation fees to INR 100, he said, adding that this may have
resulted from a miscommunication during their earlier discussions.
Also, the DUCCF president informed that during Monday’s
meeting, they had decided to establish three committees, each consisting of 7
members, to file RTIs with the DMC, the Urban Development department, and
matters related to the State Multidisciplinary Stadium in Dimapur.
He added that they plan to file an RTI with the Urban
Development department to obtain information about the developmental works
completed so far and upcoming projects under the Dimapur urban sector.
Adding that filing an RTI in connection with the State
Multidisciplinary Stadium is a big responsibility, he said that the federation
will be doing it ‘for the sake of the youngsters.’
Pointing out that the District Transport Office (DTO) is
currently located in Chümoukedima, which has been declared a separate district
now, Zakiesato said that relocating the DTO to Dimapur will greatly benefit its
citizens. Accordingly, he urged the department concerned to address this issue.
On the issue of multiple taxations, the DUCCF president said
that all the civil society organisations of Dimapur must unite in order to
tackle the problem and explore alternative solutions.
