Drunken scuffle leads to fatal shooting at Kohima farmhouse
Soriso Quinker, preliminary reports indicated that the accused Medoselhou and his associate Ajay were drinking together at the farmhouse when a scuffle broke out between them.
- KOHIMA — A fatal
accidental shooting reportedly occurred at a farmhouse in Kohima late on Sunday
night.
- According to the Additional Superintendent of Police Kohima
and PRO, Soriso Quinker, preliminary reports indicated that the accused
Medoselhou and his associate Ajay were drinking together at the farmhouse when
a scuffle broke out between them.
- During the altercation, Medoselhou, under the influence of
alcohol, mistakenly discharged his muzzle-loading gun, fatally shooting Ajay on
the spot, the police officer said.
- The incident occurred at approximately 11 pm on Sunday.
- The accused person’s brother brought him to North Police
Station, Kohima, on Monday morning, where the latter surrendered himself. He is
currently in police custody.
- A case has been registered against the accused under Section
103(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 and Section 25(1B)(a) of the Arms Act.
- An investigation is underway to ascertain the full
circumstances surrounding the incident, Quinker added.
- The victim, a father of three and about 35 years of age, was
the sole breadwinner of the family. At the North Police station, the victim’s
family members demanded that the accused take responsibility of the victim's
children till adulthood.
