Drunk driver rams 4 vehicles

Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, MARCH 24 DIMAPURIANS strolling on the street Monday evening between Tragopan Hotel and Plaza Point witnessed a haphazard driving incident. The incident happened at around 5 pm when an Alto driving at a high speed ramped into as many as four vehicles. The speeding car first hit an autorickshaw near Tragopan Hotel before it drove off straight towards Clock Tower. There it hit a rickshaw, and then smashed a Maruti Esteem before it last dashed into a Police Gypsy near Popular Bakery. The Alto collided with the Gypsy as it had no space to overtake further, some onlookers said. The reckless driving incident alarmed almost every people who were in the vicinity of the Clock Tower area, where the Alto ramped into three vehicles. The driver was apprehended right at the spot. He escaped the anger of the public as the Police immediately arrived at the spot to take him away. DSP Traffic told Eastern Mirror that the driver was in an inebriated state. He was taken to District Hospital for medical examination, and was confirmed drunk. The driver has been identified as one Aungavi Yepthomi (21 years), son of Hokhevi Yepthomi of Hekheshe village. The driver is now in police custody.
