Imphal, July 18 (EMN): In one of the state’s biggest drugs haul, narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances worth Rs. 3.39 crores in international market was detected and seized during an operation in Chandel district, Manipur bordering Myanmar.
According to police reports, a combined team of 12 Assam Rifles (AR) and Manipur police commandoes stationed at Moreh launched an operation at Kwatha junction on Monday afternoon wherein one suspected juvenile who was carrying a back pack and using the jungle route was intercepted.
And one lady Liam Haokip (30) was intercepted from jungle route and detained, the police added. Thereafter based on the information provided by both the suspects one male and one female were detained in an auto-rickshaw who was supposed to carry the package till Churachandpur in Manipur.
Later, an individual who was involved in sending the items from Moreh, the border town of Manipur located about 110 km south of Imphal, was also apprehended. On checking the back pack, the police discovered and seized 127 grams of brown sugar,109 grams of heroin number 4 (grade 1) and 6970 numbers of WY(World is Yours) tablets.
The arrested juvenile is expected to produce before a juvenile justice board for necessary action while the four persons Thengkhojam Gangte (36), Domjahat Haokip(35), Lilam Haokip (30), all from Chikkim village Moreh and Lehkhojam Lhungdim (38) of Lhangkichoi Veng Moreh have been detained further steps. Appealing to general public not to use juvenile in such trade, SP Dr S Ibomcha of Tengnoupal district police speaking to media on Tuesday sought support and cooperation to drive out such illegal activities from Manipur.
