Imphal, Feb. 27 (EMN): The Tengnoupal battalion and Moreh battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles seized a huge cache of contraband worth INR 11.14 crores in three different operations from Khudengthabi Check Post and Moreh both under Tengnoupal district on Feb. 26, according to a press release.
In the first incident at around 7.15 am (on Tuesday) based on specific inputs from reliable sources, a team of Tengnoupal Battalion seized approximately 420 grams of brown sugar contained in 32 packets from a white colour Maruti A Star (AS 02 J0759) travelling from Moreh to Imphal, Assam Rifles(south) PRO said in a press release. The assessed market value of the seized contraband is INR 84 lakhs.
In another incident, a team of Tengnoupal Battalion along with Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) Imphal recovered 960 grams of orange colour powder suspected to be brown sugar contained in 72 packets amounting to INR 1.92 crores from Khudengthabi check post at around 12 noon, the release said.
Meanwhile based on a reliable input, the Moreh Battalion also recovered contraband drugs like brown sugar 2.570 kg, Heroine 240 gm and WIY tablets 68012 numbers of a whooping amount worth INR 8.37 crores approximately besides Indian currency of INR 23.40 lakhs and Myanmarese currency worth 1.90 lakhs Kyat (INR 9,000 in INR) in another incident (from a house) on Feb. 26, it said.
Since January, the 26 Sector Assam Riles has seized a huge haul of illegal drugs worth INR 53 crores approximately which includes 20.636 crores worth wrown sugar, 7.716 crores worth of Heroin and 24.616 crores of WIY tablets.
