Mokokchung, Jan. 17(EMN): The recovery of the dead body of a missing driver from Halwating in Assam, near Tuli town In Mokokchung, on Jan. 16 evening has sparked a ‘minor tension’ along this belt of the Assam-Nagaland border.
Sources from Tuli informed that after the dead body reached Assam, people living in border areas staged a road blockade, preventing vehicular movement from Nagaland side, randomly.
However, the ADC of Tuli, Imsongmeren Imsong assured that the situation is now normal after DC Sivasagar and police officials intervened to call off the road blockade staged by the driver’s union of Halwating in protest against the ‘gruesome murder’.
Imsong further informed that the Additional SP of Sivasagar, the officer-in-charge of Amguri and the Halwating police station came up to Tuli on Thursday)to meet with the Tuli ADC and police officials to discuss r the ongoing investigation. They left “on a positive note” after the meeting, it was informed.
According to police reports, a Mahindra Bolero was hired to ferry some passengers to Nagaland on Jan. 15. However, the driver of said vehicle went missing and, consequently, the Tuli police station was alerted about the missing driver and the vehicle.
The Tuli police initiated a search operation for the missing driver and recovered the driver’s dead body, identified as Juljar Ali (25 years old), from an outskirt area of Wameken Yimsen village under Tuli ADC Hq., while the vehicle was found in another location at Chuchuyimlang village area on Jan. 16, it was informed.
The OC of Tuli police station informed that the dead body was handed over to the relatives of the victim after autopsy was conducted while the vehicle is still in custody of Tuli police.
It has been speculated that the motive behind the alleged killing of the driver was to hijack the vehicle. ADC Tuli further informed that a special team has been formed to hunt the suspect(s) behind the crime.
ADC Tuli and the police officials have also left a travel advisory note to contact the police station before commuting via Tuli- Assam Road (NH 02) to avoid ‘unnecessary harassment.’
