Two drivers and their vehicles have been taken in by the Kohima police after the authorities reportedly found that their vehicles had dubious documentations and registrations. The Kohima police issued a press release on Thursday, April 7, informing about the cases.
On April 6, Kohima police personnel on duty at the Khuzama inter-state check gate stopped a tipper truck that allegedly had a fake registration number. The truck bore the registration NL0-7A-5451, a fake registration number, the police said.
“The vehicle was thoroughly checked and during which two different vehicle documents were also recovered. However, the engine and chassis number written in both the vehicle documents did not tally with the one engraved on the vehicle,” the police said.
One Md. Mainul Haque, a 26 year old, from Haldapathar village in Barpeta of Assam was taken into police custody and ‘examined,’ the press release said. “He stated that, he was proceeding to Mao Gate to deliver the vehicle to a client for which he was assured of handsome amount after the delivery of truck is made. Two mobile handsets and cash amounting to Rs. 5000 was recovered and seized from his possession,” the police said.
In another case, a combined team of personnel of the Anti Vehicle Theft Squad, DIB of the Kogima District Executive Force and the A/10 NAP (IR) at Zhadima junction took in the driver of a Maruti 800 on suspicion. The car had the registration number NL-06-2602, chassis number 1645231, and engine number 2294641, the police said.
During verification, it was ascertained that the engine and chassis number of the Maruti mentioned in the Vahan Database and smart card (RC book) did not tally, the press release stated.
“In this connection, a regular case vide Kohima Chiephobozou PS Case No 006/16 U/S 467/471 IPC is registered against the owner of the vehicle namely Kmiyato Awomi (31 yrs) for conducting further investigation,” the police said.
