KOHIMA — Advisor of School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, on Thursday, stressed on the importance of education to liberate the people.
He stated this during the 75th anniversary of Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire Government Higher Secondary School at Seikhazou-cum-inauguration of two classrooms constructed through PIG-NECTAR Lighthouse and community mobilisation at D Khel indoor stadium in Kohima.
He acknowledged all those who have contributed towards making of the school and hailed the contribution of the community at large for nurturing the school. Pointing out that Kohima village is already an urban village, he called upon the teachers and students to accommodate students from other parts of the state.
Besides, the advisor stressed the need to upgrade the school to accommodate drop-out students at higher levels. He believed that private schools were not in the position to take in those students.
Dr. Yhome further called upon the churches to take upon the responsibility of raising children in the right direction instead of depending wholly on the government.
The welcome address was delivered by Rose Chishi, the school vice principal, wherein she informed that the school was established in 1948. She informed that there are 635 students from class 6 to 12 pursuing studies in Arts and Commerce.
A short speech was delivered by MLA Dr. Neikiesalie Kire and retired headmistress of the school, K Mary.
Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire, GHSS choir presented a choral piece, while the teachers of the school presented a song.
On the occasion, Dr. Yhome inaugurated two classrooms constructed through PIG-NECTAR Lighthouse and community mobilisation and also released the 75th anniversary souvenir.
