KOHIMA — Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, MLA representing 9-Kohima Town AC, launched the medical health check-up and treatment camp at PWD Junction, Kohima, on Saturday.
Speaking at the launching event, Dr. Rhutso emphasised the importance of working collectively for the common good of society, irrespective of belonging to different communities, taking examples from his team.
He reiterated that the Chief Minister’s Mobile Operation Theatre (CMMOT) initiative had travelled across various districts, reaching out to different tribes in the state, and had operated on thousands of people besides providing ultrasound, dental and other services.
He maintained that reaching such a milestone was possible through the blessings of the people, who enabled him through their mandate to reach out to people in various districts.

He stated that the medical health check-up and treatment camp would not be confined only to PWD Colony but would also be conducted in various other wards in Kohima with general check-ups, ultrasound, blood tests, and specialised doctors for ENT, dental care and minor operations, while those requiring major surgeries would be guided to seek further treatment.
The surgeon-turned-politician emphasised the importance of having health insurance cards for seeking treatment at hospitals, which would help save expenditure.
He added that people would be available at the camps to help and guide citizens in getting themselves registered.
He stated that citizens can seek treatment either at the government hospital, NHAK, or at his KOHIMAS Hospital to avail the free services.
Dr. Rhutso informed that citizens of the state capital could come forward to any of the medical camp sites even before the camps reached their respective wards to avail treatment.
Meanwhile, he also stressed the need for registration and availing disability certificates for PwDs, besides elaborating on the importance of family planning.
Tongpang L Jamir, in his speech, stated that health is wealth and that without health, life would be meaningless, adding that good health is very important.
He appreciated Dr. Rhutso for the initiative of organising free health camps, for which many people otherwise spend money to seek treatment.
Jamir emphasised that no one should be discriminated against on the grounds of gender, skin colour, or disability, adding that everyone has the right to live with dignity.
He also pointed out the various legal provisions and statutory laws enshrined for PwDs, along with various schemes and benefits.
In this regard, he stressed the need to obtain the Unique Disability ID (UDID) card and disability certificate, without which persons with disabilities cannot avail schemes and benefits.
He informed that all district hospitals are authorised to issue disability certificates through boards constituted by the department to examine and issue the same.
Jamir also asserted that the SCPD would be carrying out sensitisation programmes in various districts across the state.
He further stated that people interested in learning more could visit the office situated behind the Directorate of Social Welfare in Kohima.
He implored PwDs to come forward and register for the Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme after procuring the UDID and disability certificate, which is being implemented by Nagaland Parents' Association for the Disabled.
Vincent Belho, Manager of FPAI Nagaland Branch, emphasised the importance of family planning for proper health, education and budgeting, besides appealing to people to know and use contraceptives.
He also shared information on the various treatments and services available for HIV/AIDS, calling upon people to come forward to avail treatments such as Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for those who tested negative, as well as Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), which is a short course of antiretroviral medicines taken after possible HIV exposure to prevent infection.
The programme was led by Michael Neikha, who acknowledged the initiative of Dr. Rhutso.
