Dimapur, Aug. 3 (EMN): The Naga People's Front (NPF) president Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu today asked the party legislators and party leaders to remain firm and work together saying that with twenty-six legislators, 'the PDA government many not survive long as it may fall by itself'.
A press release issued by the Press Bureau, NPF Central Office Kohima, stated that the NPF president was speaking at the one day NPF consultative meeting of the 'Central Office Bearers and NPF legislators of Nagaland and Manipur' held at Central Office, Kohima.
Dr Liezietsu, while exhorting the gathering that the legislators and the party workers is one body, lauded the NPF legislators, as the opposition party of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) for an 'encouraging performance' and playing 'a constructive role successfully and effectively' especially during the last NLA budget session.
Saying that '26 MLAs in a House of 60 was a very formidable force with only 5 members short of the magic figure to take over the government,' Dr Liezietsu said, “It is a new experience for many of our leaders. Under the circumstances we, the party leaders can play a vital role to help and encourage our legislators in various ways whenever our services are called for.”
On Naga political problem, Dr. Liezietsu said that the NPF's stand towards solution of the Naga political problem remains the same for the last many years and will continue to work in the same line till the end. Saying that the Naga political problem has become more complicated because of too many underground factions; Dr. Liezietsu however expressed contentment that 'the UGs are now coming together to the same platform'. He reminded of the NPF's political stand for integration of the Naga inhabited areas as mentioned in the 9-Point Agreement and the resolutions passed four times in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
On the controversial Citizens’ (Amendment) Act 2016, Dr Liezietsu said 'the state will fight against the bill tooth and nail' while asserting that if the Government of India tries to impose this bill, then it will be understood as a negative step to accommodate illegal immigrants from the neighboring states/nations at the cost of the Naga people 'which we will never agree'. In this connection, the NPF president insisted upon the party divisional presidents to make contacts with their colleagues to prepare for any eventuality.
Rectify or spell out Cabinet decision on Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 - TR Zeliang
The NPF Press Bureau also stated that the NPF Legislature Party Leader, TR Zeliang, in his speech came down heavily on the present PDA Government and condemned the 'PDA’s Cabinet decision on Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016'.
Zeliang urged the 'PDA Cabinet to rectify its decision at the earliest or spell out the ground in which it has decided not to oppose the said Bill' and asserted that the Naga society as well as other north eastern states are opposing the Bill.
The former CM, Zeliang also alleged that the PDA Govt., instead of bring funds from Delhi for developmental works, is only busy diverting sanctioned projects to meet its own interest and that the govt.'s commitment to repair all the district headquarter roads in 60 days after assuming the office is another blunder as there is nothing on the ground while 'fund allocation of district wise also not been disclosed till date'.
While referring to the final draft of the National Registration of Citizens, Zeliang called upon the PDA Govt. to be serious enough in tackling the illegal immigrants 'as the issue concerns all the Naga people'.
The NPF Press Bureau further informed that during the second session was between the Central Office Bearers, central fronal and cell heads, Manipur state unit office bearers and divisional presidents of Nagaland state. The NPF President Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu administered the party oath on its inducted party 'working president' W Morung Makunga.
