DIMAPUR — The Literary and Magazine Committee of Sao Chang College, Tuensang, organised a one-day workshop on creative writing on Monday.


According to an update, the workshop featured renowned author, researcher, and educator Dr. Inakali Assumi as the resource person.


The event was chaired by Dr. Soyimla Akum, coordinator of the Literary and Magazine Committee, who delivered the welcome address. In the principal’s address, Dr. Lanurenla encouraged students to embrace the role of writers as the voice of the people, emphasising that “The voice of the writer is the biggest way to change the world”.


The workshop comprised two sessions. Session one, titled “Techniques and insights on developing structure, characters and dialogue in writing”, explored the fundamentals of creative writing.

Dr. Assumi discussed various structural techniques, the six types of conflict in storytelling, and the importance of creating vivid, relatable characters. She stressed the significance of research in creative writing, highlighting the need for writers to understand the context, society, and people they write about.


Session Two, titled “From editing to publishing: navigating the writer’s journey”, focused on the process and challenges faced by writers. Dr. Assumi encouraged participants to remain authentic in their voice, asserting that sensitivity is a strength rather than a weakness. She also advised aspiring authors not to rush into publishing but to take time to refine their work.


Participants engaged in collaborative group activities and shared their reflections, making the workshop an interactive and enriching experience.


The programme concluded with a closing remark by Langnyei Imlichuba Phom, assistant professor, Department of History, Sao Chang College. He lauded the efforts of the organising committee and the valuable insights shared during the sessions.
