Henshet Phom, vice principal of Yingli College in Longleng, attended the
‘Me-Dam-Me-Phi,’ a traditional ritual festival of Tai Ahom people, as the
speaker.
- The festival was organised by the Indigenous Peoples of
Mung-Dua-Chun-Kan at Moran Botamora under Charai district of Assam on January
31 last.
- Speaking at the celebration, Dr. Henshet asserted that
politics and religion divide people but culture unites people. He also stressed
on the importance of the northeast region as it is the meeting place of the
South Asian plain and the South East Asian hills.
- Dr. Henshet further appreciated the Tai Ahom leaders for
strengthening the ties with the Tai people from many east Asian and southeast
Asian countries and also for actively participating in United Nations
Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
