Chümoukedima DPDB stresses inter-departmental coordination, accountability and solid waste management, while endorsing NH-29 widening and drainage work.
DIMAPUR — The monthly meeting of the District Planning & Development Board (DPDB), Chümoukedima, stressed the need for greater coordination among government departments, accountability in implementing schemes and stronger measures for solid waste management.
The meeting was held at the deputy commissioner's conference hall on Thursday under the chairmanship of Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs and Chairman, DPDB Chümoukedima, Zhaleo Rio.
Minister for Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Co-operation, Jacob Zhimomi, also attended the meeting, according to a DIPR report.
Addressing the board, Zhaleo stressed the importance of strict attendance by all officers and urged them to sensitise citizens about various government schemes being implemented in the district and the funds allocated for them.
He also called upon officials to provide detailed information on the activities and schemes undertaken by their respective departments.
He highlighted the ongoing efforts to establish new district offices in Chümoukedima and Niuland and stressed the need for officers and departments to work towards strengthening the functioning of both districts.
On solid waste management, Zhaleo emphasised strict compliance with waste segregation practices and urged all stakeholders to sensitise the public on proper waste disposal.
He called for close coordination among the district administration, Chümoukedima Town Council and the public for effective waste management.
Zhaleo informed that Sewage Treatment Plants and Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) were being constructed to address waste management issues and facilitate the reuse of waste.
He encouraged all officers and stakeholders to work together to ensure the success of the initiative.
Minister Zhimomi stated that departments were responsible for actions undertaken in the district and requested them to appraise elected representatives of development activities being carried out in their respective areas.
He stressed the need to follow prescribed guidelines under various schemes and maintain accountability and transparency.
The minister also called for close coordination between Chümoukedima and Niuland, stating that all departments were answerable to the people and needed to work together.
The board also deliberated on a proposal for road widening and construction of drainage along NH-29 from 7th Mile Model Village to Seithekema C to mitigate flooding in the area. The proposal was endorsed to the PWD Department for further necessary action.
During the meeting, the board considered applications for society registration. After scrutiny and deliberation, it recommended the registration of Empowerment Hub for Disability, Zutovi village, Chümoukedima, and the Chümoukedima District Pensioners Association.
Deputy Commissioner, Chümoukedima, Polan John, welcomed the new members and apprised the board of the progress of the Census and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercises.
The meeting also featured PowerPoint presentations on Solid Waste Management by ADC Chümoukedima T Lemlila Sangtam and ADC Medziphema P James Swu; Postal Life Insurance and GDS Recruitment 2026 by Imti, Inspector, Department of Posts; and the Dr Ambedkar Medical Aid Scheme (Revised-2026) and Reform Utsav by SDO(C), Chümoukedima, Shreyansee Jain.
The meeting began with a review of the minutes of the previous DPDB meeting and concluded with a vote of thanks from the chair.
