Dimapur, Mar. 3 (EMN): The Dimapur Press Club (DPC) has taken strong exception to what it called the ‘unprofessional and insolent treatment’ that was reportedly shown to press and media personnel at the vote-counting centre at the Dimapur deputy commissioner’s office complex on Mar. 3.
The DPC issued a press release, through its president Moa Longkumer and General Secretary S Henlly Phom, on behalf of the media fraternity of the district. The organisation expressed disgust at ‘poor behaviour’ displayed by some of the election personnel who reportedly ‘imposed unnecessary restrictions’ on journalists covering the event.
While stating that journalists were authorised entry into counting centres, the DPC alleged that its members were denied entry by those manning the entry points.
It was only after much protest and reasoning that the journalists were allowed entry—that too under the watchful eyes of a “dobashi.” Likewise, personnel from the electronic media were denied entry into the vote counting centre even though they had authorisation issued by the Election Commission, the DPC statement stated.
Also, the media organisation expressed displeasure at some of the officials outside the counting centres who reportedly went as far as to caution the media persons from moving in and out ‘repeatedly.’
