Dimapur, April 6 (EMN): A general meeting of the Doyapur Village Council and villagers was held on April 2 at Doyapur Village Panchayat Hall, under the chairmanship of Kumud Sengyung, chairman of Doyapur Village Council.
After thorough deliberation, regarding the indiscriminate selling of ancestral land by some ‘innocent’ people of Doyapur village. Various Village Council Acts under Nagaland Jhum Land Acts-1970 were also discussed.
In press release, the village chairman, head GB and GB of Doyapur, stated that Doyapur village being covered under Jhum Land Act-1970 and in view of safeguarding the customary rights thereby utilizing the Jhum land for cultivation, the village council have standing resolution on prohibition, restriction of transfer of land sale, mortgage, lease or gift etc. However, the village council said “the greediness of some often played enticement upon the ignorant village and pay little amount of money, but gradually the amount becomes more value and ultimately the land is graft”.In this regard, the village council and villagers of Doyapur village have reaffirm the long standing resolution to sale the land with mortgage, lease or by gift of provision made in the village council in accordance with village council Act-1978 and the Nagaland Jhum Land Act-1970.
“The transfer of land without prior consent and approval of village council duly signed by majority village council members will be declared ‘null and void’. In such cases the particular land area shall be liable to ceased by the village council as per provision of law” stated the Doyapur Village Council.
