- WOKHA — A
four-day 'Doyang Folk Festival,' organised by Wokha-based NGO Team
Metamorphosis in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, concluded on
Friday at Doyang.
- The festival celebrated the vibrant traditions of Nagaland
by bringing together participants from various communities.
- The valedictory function was attended by T Lemlil Sangtam,
deputy secretary of Tourism department, as the guest of honor. In his address,
Sangtam commended Team Metamorphosis for their commitment to preserving
indigenous traditions and fostering cultural pride.
- She highlighted the festival’s role in reconnecting with
ancestral roots and called on the villagers to collaborate with the
administration to promote cultural excellence and uphold traditional values.
- Underscoring the significance of passing down unwritten
traditions, Sangtam urged both elders and youth to actively preserve the
cultural identity of the Nagas. She also expressed optimism about future
collaborations with Team Metamorphosis to strengthen cultural heritage through
innovative initiatives.
- The additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Wokha, Renbomo
Ezung, who also spoke on the occasion, voiced concern over a “growing
disconnect with traditional culture.” He emphasised that culture defines
identity and that neglecting it could result in a loss of sense of belonging.
- Ezung called for the preservation of traditional art forms,
indigenous games and attires to deepen cultural understanding within the
community.
- The festival featured a variety of cultural competitions
including folk songs, dances, fusion music, cotton yarn spinning and
storytelling, offering a glimpse into the region’s rich heritage.
- The Doyang Folk Festival ended on a high note, leaving
participants and attendees inspired to safeguard their traditions for future
generations.
